Most have fallen in the like minded
trap of using basic social networking sites mainly facebook as a means of
finding their news, or even effortlessly having the news brought to them. Then
there are some that wish they could take the time to sit down and read a real
newspaper, but the unfortunate disease of short attention span takes them hold.
With that they only have enough patients to breeze through the main headlines
and go on to dilly-dally with something else. This so true though, because it
happens to the best of us. Because we know that facebook, twitter, or even
instagram will deliver us scrapings or bias news, but it’s okay, it’s enough to
get us by for what we need to form conversation to ask for more. In terms of
civic literacy I think we have greatly evolved in terms of now we are
interacting more because of facebooks hot topic or the hashtags of twitter. I
think Hedges and Carr would use this as a perfect moment to point their old
wrinkly fingers at us and say, “YOU SEE, you have no literacy” and blah blah
blah. Sullivan on the other hand may be a bit kinder and point to the fact that
there is a “hunger” for traditional forms of obtaining news.
