If I were to define reading, I think I would have to say it
is almost like watching a movie in your head. Reading is not only a way to
obtain knowledge, but can also be for leisure purposes. Now there is a fair
amount of difference between academic reading and leisure reading, but in both
cases it is obtaining information that you interpret into your own words and
understanding. Writing is a bit different. I think I would define writing as
painting with your words. Using the right combination of words to not only get
your point across, but also express your opinion. Just like reading writing too
has a difference in the academic and personal realm. Sullivan touches a bit on
this when he mentions the difference in writing a blog verses writing an
article. Although, both Harris and Sullivan do point out the importance of using
expressive means to write, and not just simply putting information down but
actually expressing yourself through writing.
